Although Mr. Ashiotis has
been painting all of his life, he claims that he isn’t “really an artist.” This is hard to believe when you visit his gallery, because the work doesn’t
seem like it is primitive in any sense. It is abstract work.
-
He loves bright, strong
colours. Occasionally he experiments with relief elements in his work, never
losing the sense of balance which is very evolved.
-
He doesn’t claim to have a
particular style but there seems to be a strong element of graphic design in
most of his paintings.
-
His paintings are abstract
paintings, but they aren’t just an array of colour splashed about on canvas.
All of his paintings have a thought behind them. He is a true artist in the
sense that he uses painting to depict the way his mind understands an event or
phenomenon. His inspiration comes mostly from history and current events.
-
He is a very
personable man who honestly enjoys being “not really an artist.” It is
enjoyable to listen to him explain his work. He doesn’t usually give his
paintings titles so it is worth having him tell you about the stories behind
them.
